EUROPEAN CONSUMER CENTRE ITALY
European Consumer Centre Italy is the national contact point of the European Consumer Centre Network (ECC-Net), a European network co-funded by the European Commission and the Member States whose aim is to inform European consumers on their rights and provide free assistance in the event of cross-border consumer disputes.
There is a European Consumer Centre in each Member States as well as in Norway, Iceland and United Kingdom that help consumers to solve consumer issues for free by cooperating with the other Centres of the Network.
ECC Italy advises consumers on their rights and on how to assert them whenever a dispute arises with a trader.
A team of experienced advisers on consumer protection legislation, answers to enquiries of consumers by providing professional and customized advice.
ECC Italy publishes information materials, organised public events to rise consumer awareness and participate into national and European initiatives focused on consumer topics.
Sometimes, knowing our rights does not prevent us from avoiding disputes with a trader. Moreover, it may be more difficult to assert our rights when the trader is based into a different EU country and speaks a different language.
At national level ECC Italy is the only one qualified body able to help consumers to submit a complaint stemming from a cross-border purchase of goods and services for free. ECC Italy provides consumers with language and legal support to lodge a cross-border complaint- The Centre also facilitate the dialogue between consumers and traders in order to settle the claim amicably. Consumer complaints are handled in partnership with the ECC of the country where the trader is based according to the case-handling protocol set within the ECC-Net.
ECC Italy assists consumers to access to out-of-court resolution’s procedures (ADR schemes).
ECC Italy also provides consumers using the online dispute resolution platform (ODR Platform) with technical support. The ODR platform is an interactive website set by the European Commission through which consumers and traders can settle disputes stemming from contracts for purchases of goods and services made online.
ECC Italy provides consumers with detailed information on the European Small Claims procedure enabling consumers to take legal action for cross-border claims of up to €5000 without the assistance of an attorney.
ECC Italy has been designated body responsible for providing practical assistance to consumers in the case of a dispute between a consumer and a trader arising from the application of the Regulation (EU) 2018/302 addressing unjustified online sales discrimination based on customers’ nationality, place of residence or place of establishment within the Internal market.
The position covered by ECC Italy at national level and the peculiarity of the area (cross-border) in which it performs its functions, make the Center an important interlocutor of the institutions.
ECC Italy’s knowledge and expertise on consumer matters provides input for new legislative proposals and support the action of the enforcement authorities in improving the protection of the collective interests of consumers.
