The term “Privacy” refers to the protection of  everyone’s personal data, which very often are communicated to traders while entering into agreements for the provision of products or services. Whoever collects or files consumers’  personal data first of all has to ask for his consent, then he has to inform him about his right to erase or change the data and has to guaranty discretion about them. Unfortunately, it happens very often that our personal details are transmitted to unscrupulous persons who uses them for other business reasons without any limit.

It is important to release only what is tightly necessary for the carrying out of the service you are requiring, limiting the agreement to process your personal data only for the service and not for any other business purpose. It is important to accept the processing of the data that is strictly necessary to carry out the activity you are asking for. Keep in mind that every seller should ask your consent before using your personal data (name, address, phone number). This is a general principle applied in every case, even when you purchase on line. Therefore there should be a clear and straightforward question that should be always asked to the consumer, concerning the use and processing of his own personal information. A typical example occurs when you receive an advertising brochure you have not asked for; this way, your consent is extorted behind your back as your name has been inserted in the list of recipients. Therefore it is important that you read the privacy statements concerning the processing of personal information before accepting them and signing anything in order to be able to provide an aware consent.

In case these information are not provided you should ask the vendor about them and wait for their answers before ordering or buying anything. It is important to know whether the personal data you are encoding are going to be used for other reasons different from the service you are purchasing. Remember every vendor is obliged to provide consumers with every relevant information.
